what an awesome way to start the week ...
a lot bigger and nicer than you thought, huh ??!!?!?!
i meant the pool, not the ass !!!!!!
according to caveman, its the biggest pool in nyc . admission is
free, but be warned, they're pretty strict about what you bring in,
what you wear, what you do ... and the water is only 3 feet deep
haha . perfect for chicken wars though ! btw, i'm the
chicken war jjang, so don't mess !!!
**********
i have
a rather hectic few days coming up next week, so to get a lil
relaxation in before that, i'm thinking about checking out the
astoria community pool tomorrow with caveman . if any of you are
brave enough, come join us !
also, in case any of you were wondering, bear hasn't yet responded to my post on the fan message board
. but i decided to go ahead and ask him some more questions
. i have to admit though, i was a bit dismayed, because the
questions that i really really really wanted to ask
were already posted by other fans (listed below) . made me
kind of feel like i need to step it up a bit to show my man vs. wild
fan worthiness .

Hi Bear, your show is really great. I just started watching it.
I
have a question about the scenes where you ate a scorpion in the Copper
Canyon and a small snake in the Sierra Nevada, just eating them raw
(sans stinger for the scorpion of course).
I was curious why
you didn't cook them first. I'd be concerned about parasites, and
cooking would probably make that scorpion taste a bit less gamey. "Old
cheese" I believe was your description I would think they would taste a bit tough (shell?) too without cooking.
Fresh fish I could see
eating raw right out of the stream, but if I had to eat
creepie-crawlies I'd put the food on the fire first. I live in the
Sonoran Desert, and I heard that some insects (grasshoppers for one)
could have tapeworm eggs and although parts of them are edible they have to be cooked.
The Sonoran Desert surprisingly
offers quite a lot to eat, but it can be tricky. Some things are edible
raw, some have to be cooked, some are not edible because they are soap
or medicine, and some could leave a hiker hurtin'.
Have you ever felt any ill effects from a survival food you ate raw?
By
the way, congratulations, it really is a great show! I'm not much of a
TV watcher, but I will make the time for yours! Good stuff!

Questing for Bear,
Age old question I am
sure nature calls sometimes when you are out and about so do you just
do drop right their and use what ever handy leafs? or are their better
methods for doing your business in the bush... also if could mind share
how the SAS did it and didn't leave a trail?

Someone may have
already asked these questions... but here goes anyways -1)
In the "Rocky Mountain" episode, you just barely make your 5 day
deadline. During those 4 days, did you ever think that you might not
make it?
2) Also, under such harsh conditions (ex. worrying
about a bear attack in the Rockies, extreme heat and humidity in
Australia's outback, etc.) are you ever able to get
3) When you were stranded on the island, you used coconut as sunscreen. Often times you're traveling under the blazing s
un, especially when you were in Australia's outback which is notorious for its ozone hole - do you always wear sunscreen? How do you protect your skin?4)
Most of the time you seem pretty comfortable in your gear, but in the
"Alaska" episode, you hike for miles in ski boots. I can't even walk 2
feet in ski boots - did you leave them on to keep your feet warm?
5) Lastly, how do you know so much about plants??
Good luck in your journey!
have a great weekend and try to stay away from as many people as possible (except if you're going to come swimming with me!) because strep throat is on the loose !
okie, i've revised my strategy .
i wanted to go with a canon or samsung (i found one of each for under 200), because those are the only brands i'm familiar with ... but is there a better brand for camcorders ? or does it not matter considering my budget ?

i'm trying to purchase a camcorder for a member of la familia who just had a baby . i want to go as cheap as possible, but i obviously also don't want to purchase a piece of crap . my head is already spinning from all these crazy websites and camcorder specs and blah blah blah . seriously, i have a migraine .
after a few hours of playing yesterday in central park while the acm guys were kicking remnant's butt in softball, the kids starting jumping around saying they had to go pee pee . i was unable to find a porto-potty so i told the kids i'd find them a nice secret area where they could pop a squat . justin went first, without any problems . then i took yena and princess lauren behind some bushes and trees . i guess i assumed that at that age (yena is about 6 and princess lauren is about 4) kids already know the art of squatting . when i was little, the side of the road was my 2nd toilet . i mean, i don't know how exactly how old i was, but i think i was about their age ??? ... anyway, turns out they have no idea how to squat and ended up peeing all over their clothes . i felt so bad . but you know, it really made me think that we had it a lot rougher than kids these days ...
nothing excited ever happens anymore . even if anything exciting were to happen, my memory sucks too much for me to remember . and if anything exciting happens to anyone else, i never know about it because people have suddenly become so private and lock their sites or give access to close friends only -- dammit people let me stalk you (why post if you don't want it to be public? ) !!! in any case, the only things left to be excited about are are engagements, weddings, and new babies . consequently, i've decided to dedicate my site to just that .
you already know about my friend momo and the bm dress shopping, la familia young blood's new baby, and now i would like to introduce you to my most favoritest person at work and her fiance :
they just took their engagement pics yesterday in the sweltering heat and 99.999999% humidity, and still managed to look fabulous and joyous . congratulate them on their perserverance !!!!
i don't have too many other friends, so expect to read about the same people over and over again .
over the last 4 days i've been doing the following :
- dog sitting in a 6 floor walk-up apt in soho
- visiting la familia young blood's new baby at the hospital
- cheering on the mets at shea stadium
- getting lost and then drunk in bklyn at my friend's wedding
- doing u-turn after u-turn in boston and giving my every last dollar to the mass pike
i am so happy to be back at home in my own bed !!!
my coworker is working on a project funded by the march of dimes. as part of the project, our health center will be developing health education brochures to increase knowledge and awareness in the asian community of genetic disorders in newborns and the importance of prenatal tests for pregnant women. these brochures will be translated into korean.
in order to ensure that the context of the brochure is culturally and linguistically appropriate, understandable to the target population, interesting to read, and aesthetically pleasing, my coworker would like to conduct consumer focus groups in the korean american community . the focus groups are not limited to Korean women over the age of 35 - men and women younger or older than 35 are encouraged to participate.
if you know any ny based korean churches or social groups that might be interested in working with my coworker on this project, please let me know . all focus group participants will be given a small gift as a token of appreciation .
now that all of my favorite tv shows are on hiatus, i've taken the free time to pursue other hobbies like cleaning, boxing, a bit of reading, some studying, and catching up on my x-files dvds . but i'm super excited because the new season of the 4400 just started this past sunday .
i've also become obsessed with a new tv show on the discovery channel : man vs. wild . so much so that i felt compelled to post a question on his fansite .Junior Member Posted document.write('
Your courage in the face of adversity and enthusiasm for nature are truly inspiring.
My question is, are your cameramen trained adventurers like yourself? How do they handle being out there with you? How do they capture you on film when you are doing things like sailing on a man made raft across the pacific?
move over jack bauer, you've met your match .
bm dress shopping .
how emotional ...
shoot, i think i'm becoming one of those chicks !
